Front-Line Imaginative Interviews, Ideas, & Inquiries Pt. 5

Featured Image for Staff Interview Post

Cole

I fondly remember a hilarious discussion with this week’s interviewee shortly after beginning my job at Hostwinds. For some bizarre reason, I was speaking about turkeys and Cole, Hostwinds’ Art Director and Front-End Website Designer, taught me this absolutely mind-boggling fact: turkey vultures projectile vomit on other animals as a defense mechanism. I instantly gained a tremendous amount of respect for Cole and continued to ask for more and more strange facts. There has never been a shortage of these kinds of facts since, and I predict there will never be a deficit moving forward. That is how smart and unique this member of the Hostwinds Family is.  During Part 5 of “Front-Line Imaginative Interviews, Ideas, & Inquiries Pt. 5,” we’re going to extend beyond the Front-Line Team a bit just so you can get to know our unique and wonderful Art Director/Front-End Designer. Before we disclose the comical responses Cole gave to my interview questions, a short synopsis of all that is Cole:

Encycolepedia

Cole brings so much happiness and laughter to the office just by being Cole. In addition to being the brains behind the design of Hostwinds’ website, Cole has made several of the brilliant featured images attached to our blog posts. For example, the following:

Cole also happens to be a beautiful writer and know a bunch of facts very few people know. Hence the nickname, EncyCOLEpedia. Speaking of, I pretty much created the first interview question the second I decided to interview Cole. Let’s check it out!

Space, Seahawks, & Sarcasm

1. You are the “random fact encyclopedia” here at Hostwinds, and we all know it. We love it so much. Please tell us as many random facts about life as possible.

Cole: A giraffe’s tongue is blue. There are enough IPv6 addresses to give an address to every grain of sand on earth [WHOA]. Your tongue print is as unique as your fingerprint. Once in 2007, a guy tried to fake his death in order to get out of a cell phone bill. It didn’t work. Crocodiles can’t stick out their tongue, because it’s held in place by a membrane. Avocados are poisonous to birds. Captain Crunch’s full name is Horatio Magellan Crunch. The first woman elected to Congress was elected before women could legally vote.

2. What is your job title at Hostwinds, and how long have you been with Hostwinds?

Cole: I have been at Hostwinds for 6 months. I started here as a designer, and I am now the Art Director and Front-End Developer.

3. Our team definitely knows that you LOVE football. Please tell us awesome stuff about football?

Cole: I have been a Seahawks fan since I was a little child, and continue to be to this day. I played Women’s professional football in the WFL for three years, as a running back and strong safety. My nickname in football was Coletrain.

4. You’ve been in this field for 5 years, and prior to that, you were a network engineer for over 10 years. What advice would you give individuals in those two industries?

Cole: Always keep learning. New technologies are emerging all the time, and if you want to be the best designer or developer you can be, it behooves you to keep up. As a designer, the best advice I can give is to never compare yourself to other designers. Never measure your progression against designers you perceive as “better” than you.

5. What is something you think clients should know about our website and/or our website’s functionality?

Cole: Hostwinds main site is getting a great big redesign very soon! I’m excited to unveil what I’ve been working on for the last month and a half!

6. How do you like your coffee?

Cole: No cream, no sugar, and in quantities you can’t even imagine.

7. What do you like most about your job, and what do you like most about Hostwinds?

Cole: The thing I appreciate the most about Hostwinds as a company is that, although our front-end functions like a finely tuned machine, the personality is a little more “pirate crew”….I like that metaphor, someone tell Peter [Hostwinds’ founder and CEO] I need a parrot.

[HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHA]

8. Why do you like your cat more than other people?

Cole: My cat is much cuter than most people, and when she is doing something I don’t want her to be doing, I can pick her up. When I try that with other people, they tend to get upset with me.

9. What’s the coolest thing you’ve ever designed?

Cole: I once received a commission to draw a poster of the current female Supreme Court Justices (Elena Kagan, Sonia Sotomayor, and Ruth Bader Ginsburg) as the Avengers. Elena Kagen was Nick Fury, Sonia Sotomayor was Iron Man, and, of course, Ruth Bader Ginsburg was Captain America. It is, to this day, the best thing I have ever drawn.

10. Tell us about your lovely space tattoos!

Cole: Little known fact: Teenage Cole wanted to be an astrophysicist, and to this day has a fascination with space. In order to honor this dream I have a full sleeve of my favorite celestial bodies: The constellation Leo, the Andromeda galaxy, Earth, Saturn, Enceladus, the International Space Station, and, as a dedication to some heroes who gave everything in the pursuit of knowledge, I also have the challenger shuttle tattooed on my arm.

Colectively Coleaborating

Did anyone else Google “giraffe tongue” the second after reading that fun fact? What’s that? Stop asking rhetorical questions, and stop guessing your answers to such rhetorical questions? As the kids say these days, “I HEEEAAARRRD thaaaaat!” The Hostwinds Family loves Cole, and we love COLEaborating, and we love doing so COLEctively. We also love that we can provide you with valuable information about our company while being a little bit humorous…well…A LOT bit humorous…throughout the course of these staff interviews. Stay tuned for Part 6 of our “Front-Line Imaginative Interviews, Ideas, & Inquiries” blog series debuting in the near future! Have a magiCOLE and COLErful rest of the week, my blog world friends!
