Huge…emphasis on the “HUGE”…news for the Hostwinds Community!
Are you ready for it?
You may want to take a seat because this update marks a crucial moment in Hostwinds History.
Have I created enough suspense about this yet?
How about now?
Getting to the point: Hostwinds just opened up a BRAND NEW data center in one of the coolest areas out there – AMSTERDAM! The capital of The Netherlands has now become one of the three capitals of Hostwinds data!
Hostwinds + Holland: Facts About the Lovely & Charming Amsterdam
Although you may know that there are a couple amusing facts about Amsterdam that aren’t exactly professional to mention, we did manage to think of a few that are equally interesting!
The first of said facts is that North Holland’s Amsterdam is actually not above sea level. Amsterdam is well-known for its canals and the water that permeates its core. In fact, there are houses that slant alongside the canals. Such homes have earned the nickname “Dancing Houses.”
The second of said facts is this: One of Amsterdam’s distinguishing features is the mass amounts of tulips contained within it. The city is also characterized by the many wooden clogs and porcelain items you can find in the gift shops that are sprinkled all about in this touristy area. Not to mention, Amsterdam is known to have some very indulgent and very yummy food.
Important museums also live in Amsterdam. Namely, the Anne Frank House and van Gogh museum.
While we are on the topic of visionary and genius artist, Vincent van Gogh, why don’t we review some information about him that illustrates why you should check out the van Gogh museum in Amsterdam at some point!
A Few Quotes From van Gogh That Demonstrate His Genius
“What is done in love is done well.” -van Gogh
“For my part I know nothing with any certainty, but the sight of the stars makes me dream.” -van Gogh
“There is nothing more truly artistic than to love people.” -van Gogh
“If you hear a voice within you say ‘you cannot paint,’ then by all means paint and that voice will be silenced.” -van Gogh
Back to Facts
The Starry Night painter’s very unique stark impressionistic lines were actually modeled after certain eastern/Japanese paintings in addition to a few other inspirations.
Furthermore, Vincent only painted for a mere 10 years, beginning to make art at the age of 27. He definitely made up time, though, as he created hundreds (just under 1,000, in fact) of oil paintings in that short amount of time. He also wrote quite a bit during his relatively short life.
It seems that it is more commonly known that van Gogh’s biggest fan and supporter was his brother, Theo van Gogh. Most people don’t know, however, that Theo passed away very shortly after Vincent van Gogh – a mere six months.
Although van Gogh is one of the most famous artists of our time, to our current knowledge, only one of his paintings was sold in his lifetime…and now his art is worth so…so much money.
More About Amsterdam
Amsterdam has got the “eco-friendly” stuff down pat. So many people bike in Amsterdam that more bicycles exist than humans there. Finally, the first stock exchange ever happened in Amsterdam.
Amsterdam truly represents the ($10 word of the century coming up:) amalgamation between innovation and tradition. What a perfect and endearing location to establish the next data center for the ever-evolving and innovating Hostwinds!
Hostwinds + Holland: Facts About Hostwinds’ Amsterdam Data Center
Speaking of our Amsterdam data center, I know you have been waiting in suspense for some details about the center itself! Well, you are in luck because I, as the kids say, “got the scoop” from our Data Center Expert about this new location.
The Hostwinds Family’s newest data center is located in the Iron Mountain building, which has been a state-of-the-art facility since it graced the world with its presence for the very first time 68 years ago.
Iron Mountain has a history of sterling security and support. While carefully selecting the location of our third data center, the Hostwinds Team thoroughly reviewed each potential center’s reliability and quality.
In terms of reliability, Iron Mountain’s tough as nails protection as well as its immensely skillful and robust constantly-available support and security teams made it the clear choice.
In terms of quality, the center’s provides redundancy and risk mitigation to ensure first-rate performance.
All Hostwinds servers in the Amsterdam data center are on 10 gig lines. Hostwinds is offering our Cloud VPS services in this location. That’s all the information we can disclose at this present moment, however, we will absolutely keep you in the loop regarding Amsterdam data center updates moving forward.
Hostwinds + Holland: Dreams & Expansion
Here at Hoswinds, we value our clients’ opinions and feedback. This is exactly why we chose to create a data center in Amsterdam. We got a lot of client feedback asking us to have a center in the EU, so we began planning accordingly.
While composing this blog piece, a couple of the Vincent van Gogh quotes listed above came to mind right away, and I looked up the rest. That said, although the van Gogh quotes came together at random, they all serendipitously apply to the creation of this new data center.
“What is done in love is done well.”
“There is nothing more truly artistic than to love people.”
The Hostwinds Team put a whole lot of love into this project, and we did it all in order to serve our community and each member of the worldwide Hostwinds Family.
Digressing to the Next Two van Gogh Quotes:
“For my part I know nothing with any certainty, but the sight of the stars makes me dream.”
“If you hear a voice within you say ‘you cannot paint,’ then by all means paint and that voice will be silenced.”
It didn’t seem that attainable when our team of experts began drawing up the plans for our Amsterdam data center, however, our visionary founder and leader, Peter Holden, maintained his dream to expand in the area that would profit our clients most at this point in Hostwinds History, and lo and behold that dream came true. Here we are.
What’s that? You knew for sure this conclusion was going to get sappy and mushy? You are very wise and very observant. Thank you for your input, and thank you for being a part of this momentous development within our community. Vaarwel!
