Microsoft Changes Course Again: Now Mobile and Cloud Focused

Microsoft Chief Executive Satya Nadella announced on Monday, July 10th that the company is “all about mobile and cloud” and boldly attempted to “change course” and define Microsoft’s new focus, according to a recent article published on the Extreme Tech website. The article states that Nadella’s statement – released in an emailed letter addressed to all Microsoft employees – comes only one year after their former CEO Steve Ballmer announced that the company was about “devices and services.”

According to the Extreme Tech report, as of Monday, the letter to Microsoft‘s population re-identifies them by stating that “Microsoft is now all about mobile and cloud.”  The article notes that Nadella’s letter tries to “outline the extraordinary measures that must now be undertaken to actually get the company there.”  Included in the letter, according to the article, is what “appears to be Microsoft’s new mission statement” which reads: “At our core, Microsoft is the productivity and platform company for the mobile-first and cloud-first world. We will reinvent productivity to empower every person and every organization on the planet to do more and achieve more.”

Quoted statements from the new Microsoft CEO’s announcement confirm that he is “willing to be bold and ruthless to actually deliver on that mission statement, no matter what it takes“, according to the report. Nadella’s words were quoted in the article to say, “Nothing is off the table in how we think about shifting our culture to deliver on this core strategy. Organizations will change. Mergers and acquisitions will occur. Job responsibilities will evolve. New partnerships will be formed. Tired traditions will be questioned. Our priorities will be adjusted.” As the article further noted, “Microsoft is now changing its focus to ‘enable people to thrive in this mobile-first and cloud-first world“, as they move forward with this purpose in hand.
