Shout From The Roof About Shoutcast!

Shoutcast Blog Post Featured Image

Alright friends! Today we are going to learn to be DJs! Let’s set up a Shoutcast Server, get a song up there, and get it streaming!

First thing is first! Go to Https://hostwinds.com and log in!

Next, we are going to head over to services, drop the menu down and select SHOUTCAST.

I selected the TornadoCast package, which allows me to have up to 100 congruent listeners, and gives me more storage, and a higher bitrate than the basic package:

Then I did some basic information filling in and selected the duration of my billing cycle, and my payment method, I also accepted our Terms of Service (https://www.hostwinds.com/terms) and our Privacy Policy, and checked out! Once that checkout is completed, I waited for about 10 seconds to get my welcome email. Once I got my credentials, I headed over to the client portal and launched my shiny new service.

Login to Control Panel

I logged into cPanel using the credentials in my email, and BAM there it was my shiny new Stream! I moseyed on over to the navigation bar on the left and decided building my playlist was probably the best place to start.

AutoDJ

I created a new playlist, and then uploaded a cover I had recorded a while ago of that song from Pitch Perfect, Cups.

Select Playlist

Upload New Music

Choose Files

Grab Files From File Explorer

Push Upload Button

Once I got the song uploaded, I headed back to that left-hand sidebar and set up my AutoDJ.

I made some adjustments to the settings, making sure I was streaming my song, and that it was set to MP3, and that it wouldn’t fade in and out.

Adjust Settings

After that it was as easy as clicking START!

They even have a handy HTML5 embedder for the player. Which I have included below.

<audio id=”stream” controls preload=”none” autoplay style=”width: 400px;”>
<source src=”http://23.254.136.47:9984/;” type=”audio/mpeg”>
</audio>
<script>
var audio = document.getElementById(‘stream’);
audio.volume = 0.5;
</script>

Rockstar DJ

Enjoy my amateur version of the song while it lasts, as it will be taken down January 1st, 2019!
