We all throw around terms like “megabyte” and “gigabyte” but do we really know what those mean?
Furthermore, what the heck is a bit??
The term “bit” is an abbreviation of the term “binary digit” referring to a 0 or a 1 in a series, that is the basis for all computer data.
A “byte” is a series or collection of 8 bits. (This is also why the standard measurement for Bytes are divisible by 8, making a Gigabyte 1024 Megabytes instead of the round 1000)
Bonus Fact: Half-bytes are a thing, and they are called nybbles!
