The Hostwinds Client Area Overview Page & The Path Toward Enlightenment Pt. 2

Client Area Overview Page Tour Part 2

Greetings! Hola! Aloha! Hi! Bonjour! Insert friendly salutation here! We’re back! Welcome to this enlightening overview of the Client Area Overview page. Hostwinds clients with Shared or Business Hosting plans are able to access this page anytime and the Hostwinds Team highly recommends making use of its diverse features.

We had fun going over all the options within the “Overview” and “Actions” sections of the Client Area Overview page in Part 1 while also discussing…Bikram (hot) yoga poses? Hmmm…why did that make sense to me when I was putting together these blog pieces? The answer comes in the form of some hard-core wisdom that will kick off this illuminating blog piece: Some things we’re not meant to know. Some questions aren’t meant to be answered. BOOM. WISDOM. Just kidding! This blog series was designed to bring you peace, inspire you, tug at your heartstrings, and assist you in various ways as you journey toward enlightenment.

If you are now biting your nails because you are yearning to know what transpired in Part 1, this link is here to rescue you:

In Part 2, we’ll finish out the hippie fest by offering a few inspirational quotes to accompany these features…and maybe even a few silly Haikus…well, not maybe, it’s an absolute fact that Haikus will be in this piece.

More Hostwinds Client Area Particulars & Perks

Moving right on to a slew of awe-inspiring quotes while we wade through the Client Area Overview page.

Package/Domain Section

This section shows you 1. What type of account you have with us. 2. Your account’s primary domain. 3. Your nameservers.

Addons & Extras Section

Quickly add available add-ons (like advanced website monitoring and web hosting cloud backups) to your plan by selecting the add-on you would like to purchase and clicking the green “Purchase & Activate” button.

Usage Statistics Section

As it explicitly states, the “Usage Statistics” section shows your current disk usage and bandwidth usage. The following “Glossary of Terms” Knowledge Base guide helped me understand bandwidth as “the amount of traffic that is being sent to and from your account.”

Firewall Unblock Section

“Firewall Unblock” is the newest feature in the Client Area and it’s awesome! Unblock your IP address using this tool if you aren’t able to access your server or connect to your cPanel.

Quick Shortcuts Section

“Quick Shortcuts” is one of the most valuable features in the Client Area. The following shortcuts bring you to the most commonly used features contained within your account in a matter of seconds:

Quick Shortcuts

Email Accounts – You are able to add email accounts to your domains here. You can also manage your email accounts by clicking this button. Clients just getting started with their account generally go to the “Email Accounts” interface first.

MySQL Databases – Create or modify databases or add new users to your databases by clicking this button.

Let’s see, what inspirational quote to debut first? Time to dig through the (relevant, yet corny pun coming up:) database of motivational quotes. GOT IT! The first inspirational quote comes from none other than the man, Michael Jordan: “It doesn’t matter if you fall down, it’s whether you get back up.” Your tenacity and grit inspire me, Mikey!

Forwarders – Would you like to forward your emails to a different email account for convenience? Easy. Click the forwarders button.

Speaking of forwaaAaAard…THINKERS, this quote helped me when it fell into my lap and I hope it does the same for you: “A leader is best when people barely know he exists. When his work is done, his aim fulfilled, they will say: we did it ourselves.” -Lao Tzu

Subdomains – Say your website domain is “domain.com” and you’d like one of the web pages within your site to become a subdomain named “subdomain.” Your subdomain would appear on your URL as subdomain.domain.com (rather than the URL domain/subdomain.com). A subdomain is just a classier/more efficient way to organize your website URL and the pages within your website. You’ll often see subdomains like “store.” or “cart.” when you are viewing a site that has a store within it.

I’m not sure how this quote fits in here, but I LOVE IT: “Man’s immortality is not to live forever; for that wish is born of fear. Each moment free from fear makes a man immortal.” -Alexander the Great

phpMyAdmin – “phpMyAdmin” enables you to update, organize, and edit your MySQL databases over the internet.

While we’re on the topic of “areas,” it seems appropriate to share this unbelievably phenomenal quote: “Out beyond the ideas of wrongdoing and rightdoing, there is a field. I will meet you there. When the soul lies down in that grass, the world is too full to talk about. Ideas, language, even the phrase ‘each other’ doesn’t make any sense.” -Rumi

Whoa, that quote makes me want to daydream in a field of flowers for seven hours straight it’s so beautiful. In fact, it’s so beautiful, it earns another Rumi quote to keep it company. Rumi, or Jalāl ad-Dīn Muhammad Rūmī, was a man possessing wisdom far beyond his time. Pretty much all his insights are pure magic, particularly this one: “What you seek is seeking you.” Wow, that is, as the kids say these days, WOKE!

Autoresponders – Would you like to have your emails autorespond? Just click this option and you’re all set!

Addon Domains – It’s simple to add additional domains to your account. “Addon Domains” is probably the most frequently used feature, as it allows you to add multiple domains to Ultimate or Advanced plans (Ultimate = unlimited domains | Advanced = 3 add-on domains in addition to your primary domain).

Speaking of simple, yet profound, Mahatma Gandhi once gave this straightforward guidance: “Happiness is when what you think, what you say, and what you do are in harmony.”

Awstats – Another moment of pure honesty: Until fairly recently, my closest guess as to what “Awstats” did was create wonder and awe in your life by listing interesting statistics about this universe (aw + stats)…In no way was that guess correct. Awstats, otherwise known as Advanced Web Statistics, allows you to check up on various aspects of your website, including how many people have viewed it, how it is running, and how people are accessing it.

File Manager – Important files relevant to your domain are stored here.

Cron Jobs – Honest moment part 2: I had no idea what cron jobs were not too long ago, so no judgies if you are in the same boat. This Rumi wisdom led my way as I ventured to find out what these mysterious “cron jobs” were:

“If light is in your heart, you will find your way home.” -Rumi

Cron jobs are common scheduled tasks (like backing up your database) you can carry out at times specified by you. Most people use cron jobs to automate tasks that they don’t want to do or don’t have the time to do.

Quick Create Email Account Section

The “Quick Create Email Account” area is pretty self-explanatory. Conveniently create an email account by clicking the green “Create” button in this section.

Quick Create Email Account

Billing Overview Section

Wow, these sections are so unambiguous, it almost seems redundant going over them. What a success for the Hostwinds Team for creating such a user-friendly Client Area. Needless to say, the Billing Overview section shows you pertinent details about your account’s billing cycle, your payment method, etc.

Configurable Options Section

The “Configurable Options” portion displays the location of the Hostwinds data center hosting your account.

AAAAAAANND Tour. Complete. We did it! The following inspirational quote from Hostwinds’ very own Front-Line Director comes to mind: “That deserves two snaps in a circle.”

Oh, and by “inspirational” I meant…hilarious.

Do You Feel More Centered and At Peace?

I hope you leave this tour a little more at peace and enlightened than you were prior. In order to pay homage to something that can be even more beneficial than reading inspirational quotes, doing yoga, or meditating – the ($10 word coming up:) salubrious act of taking deep breaths – we’ll wrap this blog piece equivalent of a Picasso painting (random, messy, not at all normal, yet beautiful) with the following uplifting quote: “With life as short as a half taken breath, don’t plant anything but love.” -Rumi

Honesty

To conclude: Let’s have another heart-to-heart here, shall we? What’s that? You technically can’t answer yes or no? What’s that? That’s already been established multiple times? Good point! It’s unanimously decided then! Heart-to-heart it is!

It all comes down to this: The Hostwinds Team promises to always break everything down to the simple truth for you. That means we’ll always be honest with you and everyone in the Hostwinds community, for that matter. That also means we’ll always hear you out and, to the best of our ability, give you clear and concise answers and solutions.

To live up to our promise to develop better, more long-lasting relationships with you, we want you to get to know our Hostwinds Family/Team. As such, let me introduce you to one of our ingenious Front-Line Support Team Representatives, Sean. Sean, like all our Front-Line Team of Experts, is a unique snowflake. He writes Haikus!

Some of my personal favorites include:

1. Gently they’re typing                         2. Here was my weekend:          3. Mira mira aquí
Quick and responsive support             I raised a robot army                  Un haiku en Español
Front Line’s here to help                       They were defective                    Qué fantástico

Oh and, not a Haiku from Sean, but a hilarious and poetic sentence he sent me in response to me telling him I’d like him to write some Haikus for this blog piece:

“I shall think too hard about this :)”

Sean, I give these out sparingly, so this is high praise: You deserve a dramatic applause in the form of a slow clap! Also, when I told him the theme of this blog series, Sean said it made sense to him to speak about becoming centered as a person while discussing the Client Area Overview page, as it brings together many of the diverse components of clients’ accounts in one central location. Uuuuum, EXACTLY. These Hostwinds Front-Line Team Members get me so much. Sean has prepared some funny/calming Haiku poems solely for this blog piece! I’m so excited I feel like I’m going to throw up! Here they are:

1. Client Area                                                2. From our Cloud Control          3. Migrating a Site?
Your hub for all things Hostwinds            Meditate on your servers            Just click “Submit a Ticket”
The Zen of Hosting                                      Windows or Linux?                       To be centered here

Finally, we’ll leave you with another hilarious Haiku created by Hostwinds’ beloved Art Director, Cole:

Hostwinds Haiku

Cole, your creative inspiration, hilarious comedy, and encyclopedia of random facts bring so much light to the Hostwinds community!

We’re a bunch of warmhearted geeks here at Hostwinds. Good luck with your web hosting journey in addition to your journey toward enlightenment. Enjoy the rest of your week and those warm fuzzies in your heart!
