Ever since cloud hosting and storage has appeared, it has changed how the majority of people are using the internet and, most of all, storing their files. This technology is the backbone that runs famous websites worldwide like Twitter, Amazon, Facebook, and many more, and it's also the core that allows individuals to benefit from services like Gmail and Google Docs. Yet if it has such amazing functions, how does it work exactly?
The majority of server-based applications and websites run on particular servers and computers. Yet what makes cloud technology different is that it uses the resources from machines as a collective virtual machine, which means that apps will function regardless of the server or computer configurations. This means that they will practically float around in a cloud of resources, minimizing the importance of hardware compared to how the apps work.
Companies with an excellent internet connection will see that having expensive hardware is no longer mandatory for them to prosper. The truth is also that many people nowadays are using software that is ultimately internet-based, and that is why cloud technology takes advantage of this and tries to bring things to a whole new level.
For instance, if someone considers cloud servers and hosts their website on a local server from their machine, they will usually need to have a particular OS selected to determine the type of software they will run on the server. Yet, the good news is that individuals will no longer have to resort to that if they choose to have their website hosted in the cloud. They will thus be able to run Windows-based programs and Linux-based programs side by side. How is this achieved?
Those who don't understand cloud services and computing works yet should imagine that the cloud is made out of layers, mainly the user end layers and the back end layers. The former are the ones people will see and will choose to interact with. For example, when an individual wants to access his or her Gmail, they will use software that runs on the front end of a cloud. It's the same thing when they will want to log in to their Facebook account. In some cases, users can also get free cloud storage depending on their needs and the providers they will go with.
Whereas when it comes to the back end, it consists of the software and hardware architecture that providers the interface people see on the front end. Since machines are set up to allow them to work together, apps can easily take advantage of all of that computing power as if they are running on just a single machine. What is more, using cloud technology, people will also benefit from a lot of flexibility. If the demand is high, people can easily increase the number of resources they can use without making any hardware changes. Will cloud technology change the way people use computers?
Last but not least, this technology also acts as an online backup service, meaning that user data can easily be stored and accessed, as just mentioned, anytime, anywhere with just an internet connection. The online data storage technology, even young, seems to seep in through people's lives at a good pace. In the future, it will mostly be embraced by everyone!
