Hostwinds provides an assortment of Operating Systems to choose from and scripted application installs. Located in your Cloud Portal is the tools you need to customize your server to your needs. In this guide, we will take a closer look at what it takes to start a CentOS 7 VPS quickly. After that we are going to take a look at how to reinstall an existing VPS with CentOS 7.
We are going to be doing everything from your Cloud Portal. To get there, hover over Cloud Control from the Cient Area and click Cloud Portal from the drop down.
Creating a New Server:
Step 1: In the Cloud Portal, click the green Create Button to pull up a drop down and select Servers
Step 2: Make sure you have the “Operating System” tab selected and click the down arrow on “CentOS” to select CentOS 7.
Step 3: Scroll down and select your plan and whether or not this server will be Managed or UnManged. This choice is outlined in our Tiers of Support guide. It is possible to upgrade the server to Managed and your resources at any time. Continuing down, you can select your billing cycle, location and even how many.
Step 4: Once you have selected all your options, you can click the “Create Server” button located at the bottom of this page.
A pop up window will appear with the invoice that needs to be paid in order for the server(s) to be made available to you. Before paying for the service, we encourage you review our Terms of Service and our Refund Policy.
Reinstall from Existing Server:
Step 1: From the Cloud Portal, select the Actions drop down of the server you wish to reinstall the OS and click Reinstall
Step 2: Make sure you have the Operating System tab selected and click the down arrow on CentOS to select CentOS 7 and click Confirm
The server will now reinstall itself and just takes a few minutes. As soon as the server is done installing, it is ready for use.
