Google Domains Private Nameservers

Google Domains is a very popular registrar. Backed by one of the most powerful search engines, it's a popular choice for domain-only purchases. This guide will show how to create private nameservers with Google Domains.

Google Domains Private Nameservers

At Google, they refer to this type of record as Registered Hosts. Here is how to create one.

Step 1: From your google domains landing page, click Manage next to the domain you wish to use.

Step 2: Click the DNS link along the left side. This opens up the various DNS options that can be modified for this domain.

Step 3: Scroll down to the Registered Hosts section. Enter the prefix you want the domain name to resolve to. Then, enter the IP you want the nameserver to point to. Finally, click Add to finish creating the record.

You will see the newly created Registered Host now listed below the data entry boxes.

Repeat step 4 to create any other nameservers you wish to create. Typically, two nameservers are sufficient for most registrars.

As with all DNS-related changes, global propagation can take up to 24 hours to finish.
