Database error connection failed!

Webmail through cPanel makes email easy - most of the time. However, some common issues can creep up. Here are a few that you may encounter and what you can do about them. This article is intended for clients who have WHM access and can perform root functions.

Database error connection failed!

This error will say:

Unable to connect to the database!
Please contact your server-administrator

If Roundcube or Horde mail is giving you this error, first check your databases and make sure that the databases for them were created. If they are there, try repairing them through MySQL. If that doesn't work, force a reinstallation with these commands if you are on a VPS:

/usr/local/cpanel/bin/update-roundcube --force /usr/local/cpanel/bin/update-horde --force

Suppose you are receiving these errors on a Shared or Business hosting plan. You won't have access to the command line, so we recommend contacting us as soon as possible.

If you should have any questions or would like assistance, please contact us through Live Chat or by submitting a ticket with our Technical Support team.
