How do I register a domain with Hostwinds?

To register a domain with us, the first step would be to go Hostwinds.com  and then from the “Services” drop-down, select the “Domains” option

On the next page, there will be the option to search the availability of and register a new domain name or to Transfer an already owned domain name, from an old host to Hostwinds

If registering a new domain name, type in the domain name desired along with the TLD (.com, .net, .info, .bizz, .family, ect) and then click the green “Search” button. This will then take you to a page showing the availability of the domain as well as other TLD options for the domain name and their prices. If the domain is available, results similar to what is shown below will display with the option to “Proceed to Checkout”

After clicking the “Proceed To Checkout” button the next page will give the option to get ID Protection (sometimes called WhoisGuard or Domain Privacy) by checking the box pictured below, it will be added to the order

There will also be the option to change the default nameservers, which would allow for the domain to be “pointed” to any server needed, including servers outside of Hostwinds’ own network.

Proceeding from there will bring up the checkout page which will allow for contact info and a payment method to be added. Once that information is filled out, ensure that the “I have read and agree to the Terms of Service” box is checked and then click the “Complete Order” button as pictured below:

Once done, our domain partner can take upwards 24-48 hours to register the domain, but typically will take much less time.

Important Note:

ICANN regulations do require that the following valid contact information be supplied in order to register a new domain:

  • The Registrant’s full name
  • The Registrant’s full address,  including street number and street name
  • The City
  • The State/Region
  • The zip/postal code
  • The Registrant’s phone number

If this information is not included, we will not be able to register the domain.
