What is A Dedicated Server

When browsing the Hostwinds website, you might notice that we offer Cloud, VPS, and Dedicated Servers. The difference between them may not be obvious initially, but they are two very different products.

What is a Dedicated Server?

A Dedicated Server is very different from a cloud server in the simple fact that it is a physical machine. Dedicated Servers are assembled at our Datacenters from available hardware and placed into racks to begin their work for you. This fact means that Dedicated Servers are far more powerful than VPS servers and allow almost as much customization. However, they aren't as easy to upgrade as a VPS, and they require setup time for the physical installation. Dedicated Servers also allow the option of RAID to improve performance or to protect your data. All our Dedicated Servers are fully managed, meaning that they include full technical support as part of their package. Dedicated Servers are managed through the Client Area rather than through the Cloud Control area.
