First Domain Registration
If this is your first time registering a domain with Hostwinds, it is possible that you may have to wait up to 24 hours after payment has been processed for the domain to become active. We have a handy Domain Registration Tool that can help in pricing and checking the availability of any domains you may be interested in. We also have a guide on the Unregistered Domains Tool for review, as well as an article about how to start your first website and register your first domain.
When registering your domain name, it is important that you have the ability to verify the name, email address, phone number, and postal address so that there are no delays with your domain registration or any issues verifying this information in the future. Each TLD and the responsible registry may have a process in place to verify and how they handle public WHOIS details, and how these are verified, so it is important to be able to keep your domain name in good standing and use the correct contact information when registering your domain name.
The contact information on the domain is generally publicly accessible through a WHOIS lookup, and is possible for anyone to view the contact information for your domain name that was provided. Hostwinds understands that not everyone is comfortable with providing their name and contact information publicly over the internet, and so we provide Domain ID Protection services on domains. ID Protection allows another party to act as a guard, ensuring only legitimate contact is made with the registrant.
Subsequent Domain Registrations
All subsequent domains registered through Hostwinds after the first has been processed will generally activate within the hour. If you notice any discrepancies or irregularities in domain status or activation times, we recommend checking for any possible tickets providing further information, or contacting us through LiveChat so that we can help answer any questions about your domain registration.
