Create a Cloud Server

What is a Cloud Server?

A cloud server is a robust software infrastructure that Hostwinds uses to process our storage. We create these using virtualization software and divide our physical servers into multiple virtual servers that we provide to you.

Connecting to a Server to use the Cloud Agent

Note: To make full use of this article, you must log in to the Hostwinds Client Area. Additionally, this article outlines an essential section in your Cloud Control portal. To access your Cloud Control portal, click on the Cloud Control dropdown on the top of the Client portal dashboard menu and click on the Cloud Portal link.

Start at your Cloud Control dashboard, select the green Create dropdown button from the screen's top right, and select the Servers (Create a cloud server) link.

Once clicked, we will present you with several choices available to customize your server, outlined below:

Select Server Image: Hostwinds provides multiple options to choose from for your server and organized them by splitting them up into three options:

  1. Operating Systems:
    1. CentOS: Versions 8, 7, and 6
    2. cPanel: CentOS 7 + the cPanel WHM
    3. Ubuntu: Versions 20.04, 18.04, 16.04, 14.04
    4. Fedora: Versions 32 through 25
    5. Debian: Versions 10, 9, and 8
    6. Windows: Versions 2019, 2016, 2012, 2008
  2. Applications: Choose from a large variety of 1-click application installs from Drupal to WordPress.
  3. ISOs: We provide a large number of ISOs that you can choose from to get started.

Select Your Support Level: We provide the choice of Managed or Unmanaged plans. Please note that Hostwinds Managed Servers come with our full Tiers of Support, where Unmanaged Servers come with NO support outside of working networking conditions.

Select Your Plan: We provide a list of the available servers to choose from in a table. Each table row outlines the total available RAM, CPU Cores, Disk Space, and Bandwidth for each given plan shown. Note that you can upgrade your server at a later date if needed. Additionally, a checkbox at the bottom of the table provides you with the ability to add a unique C-Class IP.

Add SSH Keys: If you have any SSH keys when creating this server, you can choose them from this dropdown. Note that they will populate by default, and if you do not want them added, you can click the x on the chip to stop them from being added.

Select a Data Center Location:

Choose an available location from Select a Data Center Location. The closer a server is to its users, the less latency those users will experience.

Server Nickname: Create a Nickname by which you can quickly identify and distinguish this server later.

Billing Cycle: Choose the type of billing cycle you would like to use. Note, discounts only apply to the first billing cycle selected.

Quantity: Create up to 25 servers with this information at once by selecting the amount from the dropdown.

Once you have everything selected, click the green Create Server button at the bottom of the page. Congratulations! You have successfully created your cloud server.
