What is an Upgrade or Downgrade?
To give you the most tailored experience possible, Hostwinds has built in the ability to change your services as your needs change. Per this article, we refer to the ability to increase or decrease the capacity of the services you have purchased in a general manner. By the end of this article, you will be able to go to your specific service and carry out the particular upgrade (or downgrade) you would like to apply to your services.
Upgrading or Downgrading your Service
Note: To make any of the changes outlined in this section, you must log in to the Hostwinds Client Area. There are specific upgrades and downgrades available to Cloud Servers, which we will mention at the end of this article.
Purchasing Addons from your Client Portal
Our Client Area provides several paths to upgrade and downgrade your service with ease. The most efficient way is to move to the specific service you wish. By ordering it through the service's dashboard and starting from the home page dashboard, you can choose from two different paths.
- Click on the service within your YOUR ACTIVE PRODUCTS/SERVICES table.
- Click on the Services dropdown in the Client Area menu. Then click the My Services link to give you an overview of all services you have purchased, whether active or not. Clicking on a service in the MY PRODUCTS & SERVICES table puts you on that specific service page where you can upgrade or downgrade it.
Upon entering a specific service's management page, look for the Actions dropdown on the left side of the dashboard. We provide two quick-action links here to upgrade your service.
- Upgrade/Downgrade: This action changes the plan you initially purchased to increase or decrease the capacity of the said service. If available, a view options button provides you with monthly pricing options, such as a 24-month pricing plan.
- Upgrade/Downgrade Options: Click on this link to view upgradable and downgrade-able options that are specific to your service. Due to specificity, this can be many things, such as the number of IP addresses available on an SSD Cloud.
Once you have chosen your plan upgrade, click the green CHOOSE THIS PLAN button. Alternatively, if you are in the Upgrade/Downgrade Options area, implement the change by clicking the green CONTINUE button.
We then charge you for the totals due the day of change. The upgrade or downgrade will then process, and Hostwinds will provide you with an order number as well as a confirmation email sent to your account's email address.
