Hostwinds accepts major credit cards for invoice payments, new orders, and eligible automatic service renewals.
Credit card payments are one of the easiest ways to keep services active, as a saved credit card can be used for automatic recurring payments when selected as the account's primary payment method.
Adding or Updating a Credit Card
To add or update your credit card:
- Log in to the Hostwinds Client Area.
- Select the Hello, [Your Name] dropdown.
- Select Manage Credit Card.
- Enter the requested card details.
- Save the payment method.
If a credit card is already on file, adding a different credit card and saving the changes will replace the existing card. Once added, the card may be used to pay open invoices and eligible future renewals.
Setting a Credit Card as Your Primary Payment Method
To use a credit card for automatic billing, ensure it is set as your primary payment method.
To update your primary payment method:
- Log in to the Hostwinds Client Area.
- Select the Hello, [Your Name] dropdown.
- Select Edit Account Details.
- Under My Details, locate the Payment Method dropdown.
- Select your credit card payment method.
- Select Save Changes.
Your selected payment method will be used for eligible future automatic billing attempts.
Manually Paying an Invoice by Credit Card
To manually pay an invoice using a credit card:
- Log in to the Hostwinds Client Area.
- Select Billing.
- Select My Invoices.
- Open the unpaid invoice.
- Select your credit card as the payment method.
- Select Pay Now.
- Follow any prompts required to complete the payment.
Once the payment is accepted, the invoice should be marked as paid.
Automatic Credit Card Payments
If a valid credit card is saved and selected as your primary payment method, Hostwinds may automatically attempt payment for eligible recurring invoices.
To help avoid service interruption, please make sure your saved card remains current, valid, and has sufficient funds available before your invoice due date.
Failed Credit Card Payments
Credit card payments may fail for several reasons, including:
- Expired card details
- Incorrect card number, expiration date, or security code
- Insufficient funds
- Bank decline
- Address Verification Service mismatch
- Card restrictions or fraud-prevention rules from your card issuer
If a credit card payment fails, please review and update your payment method, then attempt payment again from the unpaid invoice.
If the card details are correct but the payment continues to fail, please contact your card issuer to confirm whether they are blocking or declining the transaction.
Replacing a Credit Card
If your card has expired, been replaced, or is no longer valid, please update the saved payment method before your next renewal date.
After replacing your card, verify that the new card is selected as your primary payment method if you want it used for automatic payments.
Removing a Credit Card
Hostwinds services are subscription-based, and a valid payment method must remain on file while there are active services on the account.
Customers may request the removal of a saved credit card by contacting Billing through a billing ticket. A credit card may be removed if another active payment method is already on file, or if there are no active services on the account.
Before requesting the removal of a saved credit card, please ensure that another valid payment method is available for any active services. Removing a saved credit card without another valid payment method may prevent automatic renewal payments from processing successfully.
Failed renewal payments may result in the suspension or termination of active hosting services, including services that contain customer data, which may be permanently deleted.
For more information, please see Account Suspension and Termination.
Keeping Services Active
To avoid suspension or service interruption:
- Keep a valid payment method on file.
- Confirm your primary payment method is correct.
- Pay the unpaid invoices before the due date.
- Update expired or replaced cards as soon as possible.
- Review any failed payment notices sent to your account email address.
If a payment fails and an invoice remains unpaid, the related service may become overdue and subject to suspension or termination in accordance with Hostwinds' billing policies.
